Securities Commission Malaysia is looking to deepen capital market ties with China under its new five-year masterplan.
The SC recently led a delegation to China under the Capital Market Masterplan 2026-2030, with the visit aimed at broadening investor participation and creating more opportunities for Malaysian investors.
Representatives from Bank Negara Malaysia and Bursa Malaysia joined the visit as part of a wider effort under the masterplan to strengthen international connectivity and expand Malaysia’s investor base.
The delegation met Chinese regulators including the China Securities Regulatory Commission and the State Administration of Foreign Exchange to discuss regulatory cooperation, market connectivity and stronger cross-border capital market links.
Talks Cover ETFs, Dual Listings and Sukuk
It also met Chinese institutional investors and fund managers, including China Investment Corporation, China Asset Management Company, E Fund Management, Harvest Fund Management, Yinhua AMC and China Southern Asset Management, as Malaysia looks to draw greater interest from Chinese institutional capital.
Discussions covered investment flows, institutional partnerships and cross-border capital raising, alongside opportunities in cross-border exchange-traded funds, potential dual listings and Islamic capital market products such as sukuk.
The two sides also discussed cooperation in enforcement, investigation and market surveillance to support a more integrated cross-border investment environment.
The Malaysian delegation included SC Chairman Dato’ Mohammad Faiz Azmi, BNM Beijing Office Chief Representative Faizal Fathil, Bursa Malaysia Chief Executive Officer Datuk Fad’l Mohamed and SC Capital Market Advisory Committee member Tan Sri Andrew Sheng.
China was the first destination for regional engagements under the masterplan, reflecting the depth of bilateral economic ties and the potential to expand investment links between both markets.
