CIMB has launched a salary account that gives eligible salaried customers complimentary Takaful protection of up to RM200,000.
The CIMB Salary Account is offered under the bank’s CIMB@Work programme, with coverage underwritten by Sun Life Malaysia Takaful Berhad.
It covers 36 critical illnesses, including cancer, heart attack, stroke, Alzheimer’s disease and kidney failure, as well as death and total and permanent disability.
Customers do not need health screening or a health declaration, although exclusions for pre-existing conditions apply.
To qualify, account holders must be between 18 and 69 years old, have their salary credited into the account and maintain a monthly average balance of at least RM2,500 to start and keep the protection.

Haniz Nazlan, Chief Executive Officer, Group Consumer Banking at CIMB, said,
“With the CIMB Salary Account, we are simplifying access to protection for account holders by embedding Takaful coverage directly into their salary accounts.”
CIMB cited estimates that only 40% to 50% of Malaysians have life protection, with many still underinsured against serious illness, death and other financial shocks.
Eligible CIMB@Work customers will also continue to receive lower entry requirements for selected credit cards and lower financing rates for Personal Financing, Home Financing and Term Financing-i Secured by ASB Certificate.
From May to July 2026, eligible customers who open the account will receive additional complimentary critical illness coverage for one year, effectively doubling the coverage amount, subject to terms and conditions.
Account holders can also buy up to RM300,000 in additional critical illness and death coverage directly from Sun Life Malaysia Takaful Berhad.
The online-only offer runs from July to December 2026 and does not require medical underwriting, subject to exclusions for pre-existing conditions and other terms.
