Bank Islam Malaysia Berhad has appointed Dato’ Wan Mohd Fadzmi Che Wan Othman Fadzilah as its Chairman and Independent Non-Executive Director, effective August 27, 2026, according to Bank Islam’s LinkedIn post.
He succeeds Tan Sri Dr Ismail Hj Bakar, who retired from the position on August 22, 2026.
Wan Mohd Fadzmi, 60, brings more than 30 years of domestic and international banking experience.
He spent 22 years at Maybank, including serving as chief executive and country head for its operations in London, New York and Hong Kong, before joining RHB Bank as Director of Global Financial Banking Strategic Business Group.
The newly appointed Bank Islam Chairman later served as President and CEO of Agrobank from 2011 to 2017, overseeing its operations across 188 outlets in Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak.
He currently sits on the boards of Zurich Takaful Malaysia Berhad, Zurich General Takaful Malaysia Berhad, Hap Seng Consolidated Berhad and Malaysian Rating Corporation Berhad.
His previous roles include Chairman of the Labuan Financial Services Authority, Chairman of Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation Malaysia Berhad, and Independent Non-Executive Director of Bank Pembangunan Malaysia Berhad.
Bank Islam said Wan Mohd Fadzmi’s stewardship and expertise in governance, strategy and financial sector leadership will play an important role in strengthening the bank’s strategic direction as it continues its transformation agenda.
The bank described him as bringing “a wealth of experience” to support its aspiration to become a progressive, technology-driven Islamic financial institution.
