Malaysia’s redesigned MyKad is facing early compatibility issues with eKYC systems used by digital banks and e-wallets.
SoyaCincau found that the new identity card was rejected during verification on Touch ‘n Go eWallet, Ryt Bank, AEON Bank and GXBank.
First-time MyDigital ID users are affected as well. Those registering with the new MyKad cannot currently complete the standard online process and must use a physical kiosk instead.
Online registration using the new card is expected to become available from 1 October 2026.
Malaysia began issuing the new MyKad on 17 September. It carries 53 security features, up from 23 on the previous version.
The National Registration Department has said systems and services that rely on MyKad will be adjusted progressively with the relevant parties.
The new card also changes several physical elements. The cardholder’s photograph now appears on the left, while the chip has moved to the back.
It is not yet clear how many other financial or digital services may require changes to support the new card.
Existing MyKad holders generally do not need to replace their cards solely because of the rollout.
JPN has also confirmed that switching to the new version does not affect eligibility or balances under programmes such as Sumbangan Asas Rahmah.
