With 22 years’ experience providing financial services across major regions of the world, Deriv has announced the launch of BeSquare, a unique tech graduate trainee programme for IT professionals. The 6-month long programme will be hosted at Deriv’s new premises at Quill 5 building in Cyberjaya, Malaysia, starting July 2021.

A Trainee Programme for Real World Experience

“We have carefully designed and structured the curriculum to provide a holistic experience of learning IT skills through real-world scenarios. We look forward to helping talented individuals learn from our highly experienced IT teams, with wide experience in global fintech services,”

stated Shyamala Siva, Head of HR, Deriv.

BeSquare was created to provide aspiring IT professionals with a comprehensive overview of the IT industry through internships with different tech teams at Deriv. This is a great way to enhance career options for the trainees. In addition, being mentored by an international team of experts, the trainees will get just the right support and exposure to explore their passion and potential, while learning how to think out of the box.

The key advantages that the graduate programme offers are:

    • Hands-on experience, under the guidance of highly experienced tech teams.
    • Professional guidance, to help trainees establish clear career goals that will maximise their potential.
    • Exposure to a wide network of guest speakers, professionals and fellow trainees.
    • The opportunity to enhance their résumé with key tech and non-tech skills that will set the BeSquare graduates apart from their peers.

    The BeSquare Curriculum

Learning will be delivered through 10 modules, interspersed with exciting challenges that will push the trainees to go beyond their comfort zone and push them to succeed. The 10 modules include:

    1. Front-End Development
    2. Product Design
    3. Mobile App Development
    4. Back-End Development
    5. Platform Architecture
    6. Quality Assurance
    7. DevOps
    8. Cybersecurity
    9. Business Intelligence
    10. Quantitative Analysis

In addition, trainees will learn crucial soft skills, based on Harvard Business Review principles. With opportunities to connect with experienced professionals from the tech industry, the trainees will also get the opportunity to grow their professional network and learn from some of the brightest minds in the field.

Moreover, trainees who prove exceptional in embracing challenges from BeSquare, will receive an immediate job offer from the company, when the programme ends.

    Who Can Apply for BeSquare?

The graduate trainee programme has fairly simple eligibility criteria. All applicants should be Malaysian citizens and last-term students or fresh graduates of any STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Maths) course. Proficiency in spoken and written English is also required.

Aside from this, Deriv is also looking for trainees who are ambitious and passionate about enhancing their skills in technology. Being excellent problem solvers and team players will also count in the applicant’s favour.

The applicant simply needs to fill in the online application form and complete a Self-Assessment Top grading Interview (SATI). Applicants who are shortlisted after this will be invited for an interview. Those who qualify for the interview will then receive a confirmation letter from Deriv.

The application process is open until May 31, 2021 and only 100 trainees will be admitted to the programme.

“Deriv believes in giving back to the community. The BeSquare programme is part of this ethos. We believe that providing opportunities for Malaysian students to excel at their career benefits individuals and enhances the nation’s talent pool. This in turn will attract more businesses to Malaysia,”

    explained Ms. Siva.

    Why Apply for BeSquare

With Deriv’s tech graduate programme, trainees get the opportunity to learn from talented and innovative teams, who can provide them international exposure through collaborations with Deriv’s overseas offices. The projects that the trainees will work on have been carefully chosen so that maximum learning can take place within the six month course.

The participants of the programme will have the opportunity to work with the latest technologies, gaining insights into the fintech, finance and tech industries.

Some of the other benefits that the trainees can expect are:

    • A job with Deriv for the top performers, at the end of the programme.
    • Experience with real-life projects, under the guidance of the best IT minds at Deriv.
    • Through rotation across the different tech teams at Deriv, trainees will also receive cross-domain training, which will help them solve problems better by being able to see the larger picture.
    • The opportunity for trainees to bolster their résumé to enhance employability.
    • Receive on-the-job experience with a sponsoring fintech company, which makes BeSquare a paid programme.

Being trained by a global fintech company that has 22 years of experience, serving over 2 million clients worldwide, trainees will strengthen their skills and knowledge base.
