Telecommunications company U Mobile has introduced the Digital School initiative to enhance digital adoption within educational institutions.
The first phase of this initiative, Projek Rintis: Cashless Ecosystems for Public Schools, aims to promote digital inclusion and improve financial literacy through a digital payment platform powered by U Mobile’s technology partner Vircle, a Malaysian neobanking service provider for kids.
Projek Rintis involves collaboration with four selected Malaysian government schools, enabling students to perform cashless transactions for meals and school supplies.
This system will allow students to pay for meals at the canteen or purchase items at the school co-op shop and bookstore without using cash.
Parents will be able to track their children’s spending, helping them to teach good money management habits early on.
School administrators and teachers will also benefit from streamlined operations and efficient cashless payments, making the process more seamless and efficient.
The launch was officiated by YB Fahmi Fadzil, Minister of Communications.

“U Mobile, in our quest to be Malaysia’s favourite digital services provider, is very excited to be accelerating digitalisation in education vertical through our Digital School pillar.
In line with the government’s ambition to transition the nation into a digitally enabled and technology driven society, we are delighted to be able to roll out Projek Rintis: Cashless Ecosystems for Public Schools under our Digital School pillar,”
said Wong Heang Tuck, CEO of U Mobile.
