TNG Digital has partnered with UNHCR to provide refugees in Malaysia with greater access to financial services through the TNG eWallet.
The initiative follows a Memorandum of Understanding signed on World Refugee Day 2024 and is aimed at addressing barriers refugees face in accessing financial tools.
Refugees registered with UNHCR can access a wide range of essential financial services via the TNG eWallet, including payments, fund transfers, e-wallet top-ups, and ATM withdrawals via the Touch ‘n Go eWallet Visa card.
The initiative also includes security features such as a Money-Back Guarantee policy and access to GOrewards points.
Malaysia hosts more than 192,000 refugees and asylum-seekers, primarily from Myanmar and other conflict-affected regions.
Many face difficulties in accessing financial services, limiting their ability to secure stable livelihoods.
This partnership aims to bridge that gap, enabling refugees to better integrate into the economy.
The initiative is supported by long-term financial inclusion advocates PayNet and Visa, whose sponsorship and expertise in secure payment solutions have helped bring this initiative to fruition.

Alan Ni, Chief Executive Officer of TNG Digital, said,
“At TNG Digital, we believe financial access is indispensable for economic survival and integration.
Through our Tech4Good and Digital and Financial Inclusion initiatives, our core sustainability pillars, we harness the power of innovation and technology to empower refugees with essential financial tools and services, enabling them to build resilience, achieve greater independence, and contribute to Malaysia’s economy.”

Louise Aubin, UNHCR Representative in Malaysia, added,
“This collaboration with TNG Digital exemplifies the crucial role that the private sector plays in protecting and achieving long-term solutions for refugees.
This partnership will provide refugees with access to financial services that many of us often take for granted – as simple as allowing them to securely save money and participate in the local economy to better care for themselves and their families.”
