Maybank users have been experiencing problems with the MAE app since 8 September 2025, and the disruptions are still ongoing today.
According to Lowyat.NET, customers said that transfers, bill payments and Scan & Pay were unavailable despite the app indicating that these services should be accessible.
Social media posts show that the issues extend to Secure2U, QR Payments and other transfer functions.
In responses to user complaints online, Maybank confirmed that self-transfers to credit cards and loans could not be processed and that temporary limits had been imposed on certain features.
With Secure2U offline, customers were redirected to authorise transactions using six-digit TAC codes sent through push notifications in the app, though many reported delays.
Since SMS TAC codes were phased out in 2021, no backup method was available.
Some users noted that transfers via the Maybank2u website were still working, but QR-based payments remained unreliable, particularly for merchants using Maybank accounts.
The timing of the outage has drawn added criticism as it coincided with the nationwide 9.9 online sales, when demand for digital payments peaks.
Maybank later stated that services on its website and the MAE app had been restored, yet complaints about failed transactions and errors continued to surface.
The bank advised customers to close the app completely and relaunch it to fix ongoing issues.
As of publication, customers continue to vent their frustrations online, with many also reporting difficulties in reaching the bank’s customer service.
