Setel has introduced a cash top-up feature that allows customers to add funds to their Setel Wallet using cash at PETRONAS stations across Malaysia.

This move expands access to its digital payments ecosystem for users who prefer cash transactions.

The service is available at more than 1,000 PETRONAS stations nationwide and enables customers to top up their wallets without requiring online banking or payment cards.

After completing a one-time verification process, users can use their cash-funded balance for fuel purchases, parking, retail payments, Mesra Rewards and payments via DuitNow QR.

The feature is particularly relevant for BUDI95 subsidy recipients, as it allows subsidies to be accessed digitally through the app while continuing to pay in cash.

Assistance will be available at PETRONAS stations to help customers complete the top-up process and use the app.

“At Setel, we recognise that many Malaysians still rely on cash, and our role is to make everyday payments easier and faster without asking them to change how they live. With Cash Top-Up at PETRONAS stations, customers can simply walk in, top up with cash, and immediately enjoy the full Setel experience. As we roll this out nationwide, including in remote and underserved areas, we are bringing more Malaysians along on the digital journey and ensuring no one is left behind,”

said Abdullah Ayman Awaluddin, Chief Executive Officer of Setel.

The cash top-up option also addresses the issue of unused balances or “breakage” that can occur when customers pay with cash at the counter while refuelling.

Any remaining amount stays in the Setel Wallet and can be used for other services on the app, including parking, retail purchases, motor insurance renewal and DuitNow QR payments at participating merchants.

To support adoption, Setel is running its Setel je! Senangnya campaign until 31 January 2026.

New users who download the app and sign up using the referral code C-SENANG receive RM10 upfront to try fuelling with Setel.

Participants are also eligible to share in 60,000,000 Mesra Rewards points and enter prize draws offering a total of RM320,000 in prizes upon completing their first fuelling transaction.

Setel is PETRONAS’ digital mobility and payments platform, integrating fuel payments, rewards and other everyday services through a single app.
