Just open any online banking app in Malaysia, and you’d most likely see the same grid and similar user interface: account balances, icons, transaction lists, and, for those with extra features, perhaps a graph or pie chart offering a glance at where your money went. Useful, certainly, but the user experience mostly ends there.
You can see what you spent, but rarely why it matters, what it signals, or what actions can be taken to be more Ringgit-savvy and budget-conscious.
Now that is a common pain point that most of us have. experienced. But fret not, AEON Bank has introduced AI Neko Sensei, an AI-powered financial coach accessible within its mobile app.
Aside from the banking statement, the user interface of the Neko Sensei is simple and intuitive. You can just chat with the Neko Sensei, input any prompt or questions, and it will share tips and tricks to help you manage your Ringgit better and smarter.
It is able to interpret the patterns behind the numbers, flag where your spending is easing off or escalating, and nudge the next steps to keep you aligned with your financial goals.
You can track spending activities and where your money goes, with reporting flexing between weekly, monthly, and annual horizons.
The name Neko Sensei (ねこ先生) itself is a nod to AEON’s Japanese heritage: Neko stands for cat, Sensei means a knowledgeable expert, teacher or mentor.
Guided by AEON Bank’s mascot, Neko, it softens the functionality while anchoring the user-friendly technology behind it, making it more personalised rather than just a passive system or apathetic financial dashboard.
What is AI Neko Sensei & How Can It Help Us Be More Ringgit-Savvy?

The latest offering within the Neko Sensei feature is an AI-powered financial coach, easily accessible via the AEON Bank app. It can help to decipher a customer’s transaction history to provide spending insights, budget summary and savings guidance, but beyond that, it can do so much more.
Essentially, Neko Sensei is your proactive ‘budget bestie’ or predictive financial co-pilot that could assist you in finding ways to plug financial “leaks”, grow your savings, and offer tips to assist you in understanding your spending habits and make smarter financial decisions.
In a nutshell, Neko Sensei is intuitively simple to use, thanks to the following functionality :
- Conversational AI Budget Bestie: Neko Sensei is able to communicate with you colloquially, thanks to the AI-powered advanced natural language processing. Simply go to your AEON Bank app, click on the Neko Sensei icon and start chatting with Neko Sensei like you would with a real-life financial planner.
- Inclusive Bilingual Capability: AEON Bank designed Neko Sensei to serve Malaysia’s diverse demographic. Hence, the interface supports English and Bahasa Melayu for your ease of use.
- Proactive Wealth Building: While waiting for your banking month-end reports or monthly statement, Neko Sensei can dynamically prompt you with real-time financial advice and offer personalised guidance based on your spending patterns. It can also share practical tips on how to optimise your savings pots, double your savings, maximise your profit rate, and stretch your Ringgit.
The AI Neko Sensei chat thread is one pull-down away, where you can freely ask questions, review spending, and dig deeper into personalised financial insights.
Math-Meets-Motivation : Neko Sensei Builds You a Budget and Coaches You Towards a Practical Action Plan

For users new to the feature, AI Neko Sensei takes the income declared in the app, applies the 50/30/20 rule, and drafts one for the user.
Adjustments, if needed, happen in the chat. Type change by groceries monthly budget to RM1,000, and the change finalises within the app with no menu hunting required.
For example, if you have any budget concerns or financial aspirations, head on to Neko Sensei and ask, “I would like to purchase my dream home in the next 3 to 5 years. Can you help to propose a mid- to long-term plan on how to make this possible?”
Or start a new chat, saying, “Hi Neko Sensei, based on my monthly income and commitments, can I afford to buy a new smartphone, specifically this (particular) model?”
Neko Sensei will then analyse your financial habits, savings tendencies and profit rate potentials, and other financing facilities that could assist you in reaching that goal.
This would be your action plan on how to fast-track a particular financial aspiration or stretch your budget to afford that new gadget.
You can also tell Neko Sensei that you wish to buy a new car in six months or ask Neko Sensei what you need to do to afford a trip to Japan by March 2027. It will help to work out how much you need to set aside and which Savings Pot to route it through.
With AEON Bank’s Savings Pots currently earning 3% p.a., the maths-meets-motivation pitch has an enticing carrot dangling at the end.
More Than Generative AI in a Banking App
A general-purpose AI tool can walk you through the principles of budgeting, but it can’t see your money. It doesn’t know that you’ve spent RM618.40 on food over the past three months, or that your average daily spend on a work weekday is RM50. Their advice stays generic because the data baseline is limited.
AI Neko Sensei has the financial and transactional context that the regular LLMs aren’t privy to, and due to this, AEON Bank has taken care with how data protection moves around it. The bank has taken steps to secure your personal information within its app through the Mobile Security Platform (MSP) shielding technology.

Personally identifiable data is masked before it ever reaches the underlying AI, and the feature was put through internal security testing ahead of rollout. The mobile security platform, which already wraps and secures the perimeters of the app, applies here too.
Ethical banking is practised as part of AEON Bank’s Shariah-compliant DNA. It is woven in with the same deliberation. The bank’s Shariah team advised on the terms, framings and product guidance it surfaces, so any recommendations around financing and savings sit squarely within Islamic banking principles by default.
What’s Coming Soon for AI Neko Sensei
For now, AI Neko Sensei proactively serves its role as a personalised financial mentor. It won’t reset your password or process an application for an AEON Bank Personal Financing-i loan, as those offerings are currently available within the AEON Bank app for your convenience.
For select actions like opening a new Savings Pot, Neko Sensei will generate a redirect link that hands you the reins to complete the request. AEON Bank has signalled that deeper in-app actions will be rolled out gradually in the near future.
What is live and engaging is the weekly Instagram-style spending roundup and Neko Missions, the bank’s gamified rewards programme.
Moreover, as part of AEON Bank’s second anniversary celebration, new customers can enjoy welcome bonuses, including Takaful freemium, while existing users can earn extra rewards and multiple benefits, including the RM2 cash rewards during the ‘2gether Lagi Better’ anniversary campaign.
Just go to the AEON Bank app, click the Neko Sensei icon, and add the ‘2gether Lagi Better’ button to enjoy your rewards.
