Penang has set its sights on a 100% cashless transaction rate after recording 99.40% under the national Cashless Boleh 5.0 campaign.
The performance earned the state the national Outstanding Digital Payment Usage Performance Award, Bernama reported.
It marked Penang’s second consecutive win following a 95% rate in the previous edition.
All 24 state departments and agencies are taking part in efforts to expand the use of cashless payment methods among the public.
H’ng Mooi Lye, chairman of the State Local Government and Town and Country Planning Committee, said the government is collecting user feedback to assess existing services and identify areas for improvement.
The state is also promoting available payment options at government offices and through official websites, social media pages and departmental platforms.
The measures are intended to raise public awareness of the convenience, security and wider benefits of cashless transactions.
H’ng said continued cooperation would help the state maintain its digitalisation momentum and provide a reference point for similar efforts elsewhere in Malaysia.
