Anuar Fariz Fadzil will step down as MDEC CEO on 2 October 2026 after deciding not to renew his two-year contract.
MDEC announced that he plans to pursue new opportunities outside the agency.
From 2025 to August 2026, MDEC reported that it had secured close to RM180 billion in digital investments from more than 1,000 Malaysia Digital (MD) status companies.
These investments are expected to generate more than 42,000 high-value jobs for Malaysians.
During his tenure, Anuar focused the agency’s performance measures on jobs, exports, revenue and investments.
He also prepared MDEC for its responsibilities under the Malaysia Digital 2030 action plan, covering AI adoption, high-value digital investments, industry transformation, talent development and locally developed technologies.

MDEC Chairman Ganesh Kumar Bangah said,
“Anuar spearheaded MDEC’s drive towards AI Nation 2030, gave us all a renewed sense of mission and insisted that our work be measured by real outcomes: Investments that create good jobs, stronger Malaysian companies and greater opportunities for our nation’s talent.
Under Anuar’s leadership, MDEC is today stronger, more focused and better prepared. The foundations Anuar laid will continue to shape MDEC’s work well beyond his tenure.”

Anuar added,
“This has not been an easy decision precisely because MDEC, our people and our mission have come to mean so much to me.
I leave with immense pride in what we have accomplished together and with complete confidence in MDEC’s future. While I may be leaving this role, my belief in MDEC and in Malaysia’s digital future remains as strong as ever.”
