Malaysia could introduce the RM50 monthly MyKomuter50 pass for unlimited KTM Komuter rides as early as 1 December, with 1 January 2027 as the fallback date if technical preparations are not completed in time, Malay Mail reported.

“We are targeting a launch as early as 1 December or, at the latest, January 1 next year. If it is not ready by 1 December, we will launch it on 1 January,”
said Anthony Loke, Transport Minister, at a press conference in Putrajaya on Monday (12 October).
The MyKomuter50 pass will allow Malaysian citizens to take unlimited KTM Komuter journeys for 30 days.
Commuters will only need their MyKad to qualify, and Loke said the government wants to avoid a lengthy registration process.
KTMB still finalising MyKomuter50 ticketing system
Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) is still working out how to issue the pass. Loke said discussions on the ticketing system are ongoing, with the government preferring a digital option.
KTM Komuter already allows passengers to pay at automated gates using debit cards, credit cards and e-wallets, following the rollout of an open payment system across 80 stations in February 2024.
However, Loke did not confirm whether MyKomuter50 would use the existing infrastructure.
The pass follows public demand for a KTM equivalent of Prasarana’s My50 pass, which offers unlimited monthly travel on Klang Valley rail and bus services.
Loke said the KTM network’s longer distances and higher fares had previously complicated the initiative, but the Finance Ministry has since approved it.
MyKomuter50 could save commuters up to RM366 monthly
Commuters travelling between Tanjung Malim and Kuala Lumpur could save RM366 a month under the new pass. Based on 40 journeys, their monthly travel costs would fall from RM416 to RM50.
Those travelling between Seremban and Kuala Lumpur could save at least RM300 monthly, while commuters on the Alor Setar to Butterworth route could save up to RM250.
Passengers using the KTM Shuttle Selatan service between Kluang and Johor Bahru could also save more than RM200 a month, according to Loke.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim first announced MyKomuter50 during the tabling of Budget 2027 on 9 October.
The initiative is expected to benefit around 40,000 KTM Komuter users, with potential savings of up to RM160 a month, according to Bernama.
New trains and higher frequency in 2027
Loke also addressed commuter concerns over train frequency and long waiting times, saying KTMB would gradually improve services throughout 2027.
Twelve new train sets could enter service in the northern sector as early as February 2027, covering routes between Ipoh and Butterworth, as well as Butterworth and Padang Besar.
In the Klang Valley, KTMB plans to increase train frequency in stages as it completes track upgrading works and reopens affected sections of the line.
