Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) has warned that scammers are impersonating the central bank through fake websites and malicious apps.
The schemes aim to steal personal and banking information, BNM said in a post on its X account, cautioning that a website can look official without being genuine.
BNM urges the public to stay alert and check any suspicious information at bnm.gov.my/verify.
The verification page collects impersonation attempts that BNM has flagged.
These include deepfake advertisements featuring the Governor, emails and letters claiming to come from the central bank, and messages from people posing as its senior officers.
BNM states on the page that it will never ask the public to transfer funds or disclose personal banking details for any investigation.
