Malaysians can now access more than 16,000 Coursera courses for free through the government’s Rakyat Digital initiative.
The Global Learning Pass provides three months of access to courses covering artificial intelligence (AI), data science, cloud computing, business and other professional skills.
The programme is led by the Ministry of Digital through MyDIGITAL Corporation and has been available since 16 September.
A total of 100,000 licences will be distributed in four phases, with 25,000 allocated to each cohort.
Malaysian citizens must register through the Rakyat Digital portal using MyDigital ID to qualify for the free Coursera courses.
Learners must activate their licences within the stipulated period. Those who fail to do so risk losing access, with their licences reassigned to applicants on the waiting list.
Rakyat Digital Targets Five Million Learners by 2030
According to MyDIGITAL Corporation, 12,900 learners enrolled in 43,000 courses during the first three weeks of the programme.
The Sun reported that about 15,000 Malaysians had registered their interest as of 7 October.
Digital Ministry Secretary-General Datuk Fabian Bigar said the government would assess the programme based on course completion, recognised credentials and how participants apply their skills.
Rakyat Digital has recorded approximately 1.6 million sign-ups across its broader learning programmes, with a target of five million learners by 2030.
The Global Learning Pass supports the Malaysia Digital 2030 Action Plan (MD2030), which aims to strengthen the country’s digital capabilities.
Plans are also underway to connect programme participants with potential employers.
