Finexus aims to help Malaysian banks prepare for more granular regulatory data submissions under Bank Negara Malaysia’s (BNM) Project STREAM.
Its AIRStream platform is designed to process information from different banking systems and convert it into the required reporting formats, reducing the need for major changes to existing core banking infrastructure.
Project STREAM aims to reduce repetitive submissions by allowing BNM to collect data once for multiple reporting purposes where practicable.
The initiative will shift regulatory reporting away from manual templates towards standardised, automated data submissions.
BNM expects the first phase, covering deposits, payments and derivatives, to begin data collection in late 2028.
Banks May Still Need to Update Some Systems
According to Finexus, AIRStream handles much of the data mapping and transformation needed for the transition.
However, banks may still need to update their front-end systems to capture additional information such as payment purpose codes and unique customer identifiers.
Finexus has developed the data mapping and system architecture to support all three phases of Project STREAM, although BNM’s final output specifications for Phases 2 and 3 remain pending.
The company expects to make the remaining adjustments to its output configurations once those specifications are released, with the aim of limiting further changes for banks.
AIRStream’s Security and Compliance Measures
AIRStream operates as a cloud-based software-as-a-service platform hosted in Finexus’s private data centres.
Each bank is assigned a dedicated single-tenant environment with a segregated database.
Finexus states that the platform uses AES-256 encryption for stored data, holds PCI-DSS Level 1 certification and complies with BNM’s Risk Management in Technology requirements.
The company also lists ISO/IEC 27001, ISO 9001, PCI 3DS and SOC 2 Type II among its broader certifications and compliance credentials.
Finexus is offering technical assessments and integration support to help banks prepare their existing systems for the new reporting requirements.
