CIMB has announced a new initiative to support children with cerebral palsy through the launch of a special Visa debit card.
For every new debit card issued, CIMB will donate RM2 to Gabungan Anak-Anak Palsi Serebrum (GAPS), a non-profit organisation that empowers children with cerebral palsy through rehabilitation equipment and enrichment programmes.
This initiative aims to provide GAPS with a sustainable source of funding to continue their important work.
The card itself is also CIMB’s first to be made from recycled PVC.
The launch event was attended by Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh, CIMB CEO of Group Consumer and Digital Banking Effendy Shahul Hamid, GAPS founder Rafidah Rafizah Ahmad, and Paralympic athlete Mohammad Ridzuan Mohamad Puzi.
CIMB also presented GAPS with much-needed rehabilitation equipment at the event.
Rafidah highlighted the financial challenges faced by families of children with cerebral palsy, especially those in the B40 income group.
She noted that over 81% of families with cerebral palsy individuals fall within this category and often struggle to afford specialised care and equipment.
CIMB’s support will help alleviate these burdens and enable GAPS to continue providing essential services.
In addition to the debit card initiative, CIMB also introduced its first community hub at its Plaza Damansara branch.
This space will serve as a center for NGOs, customers, and the community to collaborate on social impact projects.
Customers and the public are encouraged to visit the Plaza Damansara branch to learn more and submit their own community initiative proposals.
CIMB plans to expand this Community Hub model to other branches nationwide.
The new CIMB Visa debit card is now available at all CIMB branches.
YB Hannah said,
“In conjunction with International Day of Persons with Disabilities, I am pleased to see CIMB stepping forward with initiatives that extend beyond financial services to create a tangible social impact.
These efforts demonstrate a powerful commitment to fostering inclusion and collaboration, encouraging the wider community to come together in support of underserved groups.”
Effendy said,
“CIMB is pleased to partner with GAPS to create a meaningful impact in the lives of children living with cerebral palsy, channeling contribution towards essential rehabilitation equipment and enrichment programmes.
This partnership reflects our belief that positive change begins at the community level. By fostering a culture of inclusivity, we aim to enhance the lives of individuals and strengthen the overall social fabric of our communities.”
