Bank Islam Malaysia has expanded its agent banking services to four locations in East Malaysia to improve financial access for underserved communities.
The new Ejen Bank Berdaftar (EBB) Bank Islam locations are at Ar-Rahnu YaPEIM outlets in Semporna, Sipitang, and Kota Belud in Sabah, as well as Lawas in Sarawak.
These additions bring the total number of EBB agents nationwide to 37, with a target of 50 by the end of 2025, focusing on further expansion in Sabah and Sarawak.
The initiative also includes partnerships with Kedai Mesra outlets under MESRA RETAIL & CAFÉ to extend banking access.
The expansion addresses the challenge faced by residents who previously had to travel between 50 and over 100 kilometers to the nearest Bank Islam branch or self-service terminal.
Customers can now perform essential banking transactions, including cash deposits, withdrawals, and mobile reloads, closer to home.
Bank Islam collaborated with Yayasan Pembangunan Ekonomi Islam Malaysia (YaPEIM) and MESRA RETAIL & CAFÉ to facilitate these services.
To introduce the initiative, EBB roadshows were held between 24-27 February 2025 at the new locations.
Bank Islam has also been enhancing its digital banking capabilities, recently launching the BIMB Mobile app, replacing the previous GO by Bank Islam app, alongside a new internet banking platform, BIMB Web.
Nearly a million customers have already migrated to the new system.

Mohamed Iran Moriff Mohd Shariff, Group COO & Group Chief Sustainability Officer, Bank Islam, said,
“Transactions at our banking agent premises are conducted in real-time, recorded electronically, and securely managed, ensuring the interests of all stakeholders, namely the customers, agents and Bank.
Customers can visit EBB Bank Islam outlets to enjoy seamless banking services without incurring additional costs.”
