Malaysian entrepreneur Arsyan Ismail has sold the domain AI.com for US$70 million, approximately RM276 million, in a transaction paid entirely in cryptocurrency.

The sale represents the highest disclosed price for a domain name to date, surpassing the US$49.7 million paid for CarInsurance.com in 2010.

Kris Marszalek, the CEO of Crypto.com, acquired the domain in April 2025 through broker Larry Fischer.

Marszalek plans to launch a consumer artificial intelligence platform under the AI.com brand, which is expected to debut during a Super Bowl LX commercial this weekend.

The new site will feature personal AI agents designed to help users perform tasks such as sending messages, managing applications, and trading stocks.

Regarding the high acquisition cost, Marszalek explained that owning such a primary category domain is essential for brand recognition.

“There is a big desire for us to own this touchpoint, otherwise you get commoditised,” he stated.

He also expressed interest in the fact that one individual could own two domains representing such significant categories as crypto and AI.

The platform aims to offer features similar to existing viral AI agents but with a simpler interface for a non-technical audience.

To address privacy concerns, the service will encrypt user data with individual keys.

Although Marszalek has reportedly received significant offers to resell the domain, he intends to maintain ownership to build long-term trust and awareness in the competitive tech market.

The transaction highlights the increasing value of short, recognisable domains as artificial intelligence continues to influence the global technology landscape.
