Google will update its financial services verification process to introduce new requirements for certain financial services advertisers in Malaysia from 14 April 2026.
The categories that may be subject to verification include banking, credit cards, credit and loans, investment, brokerages and day trading, bonds, commodities and futures trading, and insurance.
Advertisers may initiate verification themselves, but those in financial services categories that are in scope for verification in Malaysia will be required to complete the process if requested by Google.
The company said affected advertisers will be notified by email or through in-account alerts.
Those that do not successfully complete the new verification process before 14 April 2026 will no longer be allowed to run financial services ads in Malaysia.
Agencies and other Google Ads customers managing campaigns on behalf of affected advertisers will also need to obtain verification.
To continue advertising in-scope financial services after 14 April 2026, advertisers may first need to obtain verification through Google’s external compliance partner, G2, before applying to Google as either a First Party or an Authorised Advertiser.
As part of the G2 process, advertisers may be asked to provide details such as the type of financial services they offer, whether they are licensed, and their registration number, among other things.
They must also show that they are directly authorised by the relevant financial services regulator to carry out those activities, or are exempt from that requirement.
Once verified by G2, advertisers must apply to Google using the unique verification code issued during the process.
Google also said advertisers that promote financial services with the approval of a First Party or Authorised Advertiser, but are not directly authorised by a regulator, cannot apply for verification on their own.
Instead, the First Party or Authorised Advertiser must apply on their behalf.
G2 began processing applications for financial services verification on 10 March 2026.
Google said advertisers can refer to its support page for more details on the new requirements and to begin the verification process.
