AmBank has enabled Apple Pay for its debit cardholders, with payments now supported on PayNet’s MyDebit network.
The move allows eligible domestic debit payments made through Apple Pay to remain on Malaysia’s local payment rails. PayNet operates the national MyDebit network.
AmBank had already introduced Apple Pay for its credit cards, and the latest rollout extends the service to MyDebit cardholders.
Customers can use Apple Pay for in-store, in-app and online purchases. For in-store payments, they can use an iPhone or Apple Watch, while in-app and web purchases are supported on iPhone, iPad and Mac.
Users authenticate with Face ID, Touch ID or a passcode, and each transaction is secured with a one-time, unique dynamic security code.

“AmBank’s collaboration with PayNet enables us to bring Apple Pay to our MyDebit cardholders via Malaysia’s own MyDebit infrastructure.
As the first bank in Malaysia to do so, we’re proud to support national capabilities while delivering the same seamless, secure, and intuitive Apple Pay experience our customers expect, reflecting AmBank’s commitment to customer convenience and digital innovation,”
said Cheong Chee Wai, Managing Director, Retail Banking, AmBank Group.
Actual card numbers are not stored on the device or on Apple servers.
Instead, a unique Device Account Number is assigned and encrypted in the Secure Element, an industry-standard chip designed to store payment information safely on the device.
Customers can start using the service after adding their MyDebit card through Apple Wallet or the AmOnline app.
They will also continue to receive all rewards and benefits offered by AmBank.
AmBank is also running a limited-time cashback campaign for MyDebit customers using Apple Pay.
Eligible customers who make three transactions of at least RM30 each within a month will receive RM30 cashback.
The offer is limited to one redemption per customer on a first-come, first-served basis.
