Amazon Web Services (AWS) wants to bring AI into the daily work of Malaysia’s civil service.
Its new Semarak AI Malaysia programme aims to give up to 445,000 government officers access to AI tools.
The initiative also targets businesses and students, building on AWS’ RM29.2 billion investment commitment in Malaysia.
Government officers will gain access to Amazon Quick through the National Digital Department’s (JDN) AI-as-a-Service platform to analyse data, review policies and support daily tasks.
GovTech Malaysia is also launching GovHub using AWS’s AI development tool Kiro.
The pilot will involve 500 developers in 2026, with plans to reach 4,000 by 2028.
AWS Targets 10,000 SMEs and Expands AI Training
AWS and the Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation (SDEC) have supported more than 20 local software companies through the Sarawak SaaS Accelerator.
The company is also partnering with GD XCHANGE and VSTECS to provide eligible SMEs with six months of complimentary access to Amazon Quick and Kiro.
The collaboration aims to reach 10,000 SMEs by 2028.
More than 3,000 students and lecturers joined the POLYCC Agentic AI League 2026, setting a Malaysia Book of Records milestone for participation in an agentic AI competition.
Participants used Kiro to develop AI solutions, including those without programming experience.
AWS also plans to upgrade digital facilities and introduce coding, robotics and digital safety activities at Sekolah Kebangsaan Datuk Keramat (1) under the Sekolah Angkat MADANI programme.

“When the public sector leads in building with AI, it becomes the lighthouse for the rest of the country.
That’s what Semarak AI Malaysia is designed to do; equip civil servants, software companies, and students with the tools to build their own AI solutions.”
said Hussein Mohd Ali, Country Manager, Malaysia, AWS.
