Google plans to invest US$15 billion in Malaysia between 2027 and 2028 to expand its data centre infrastructure.
Its computing capacity in Selangor will also support the company’s upcoming Malaysian cloud region for enterprise customers.
The investment builds on Google’s US$2 billion commitment in 2024 for its first Malaysian data centre and cloud region.
Google’s first data centre campus at Elmina Business Park in Selangor is now operational, with additional campuses planned in Selangor and Negeri Sembilan.
Google Cloud expansion to support enterprise customers
Google said its cloud capabilities help organisations deliver secure, high-performance, low-latency services and develop custom AI solutions.
The company named Hong Leong Bank, Bank Muamalat Malaysia Berhad, AirAsia, Maxis, Gamuda, AEON360 and two Malaysian ministries among organisations using its cloud capabilities.

“Google is committed to growing our presence responsibly, delivering lasting value for Malaysia’s economy and people,”
said Ruth Porat, President and Chief Investment Officer, Alphabet and Google.

“Google’s comprehensive blueprint sets a high standard for sustainable, high-impact digital infrastructure development in Malaysia,”
said Gobind Singh Deo, Malaysia’s Minister of Digital.
Construction expected to support over 37,000 jobs annually
Google estimates that construction of its new campuses between 2027 and 2028 will contribute an annual average of US$1.1 billion to Malaysia’s GDP.
The projects are expected to support more than 37,000 local jobs annually, including approximately 6,000 in construction, and generate US$378 million in average annual labour income.
Once operational, the facilities are projected to sustain more than 9,000 local jobs annually, with average wages 45% above the national median.
Google is also working with more than 80 Malaysian suppliers across construction, network infrastructure, power and cooling systems, and other services.
Clean energy and AI skills programmes
Google plans to add more than 1 gigawatt of clean energy capacity to Malaysia’s National Grid and strengthen local water security as its operations expand.
The company also announced four programmes aimed at upskilling approximately 800,000 Malaysians between 2027 and 2031, targeting students, educators, microentrepreneurs, local government personnel and vocational jobseekers.
Through Jelajah AI MSME, Google will work with Pepper Labs to help microentrepreneurs develop searchable business profiles and digital storefronts. The programme will begin in Selangor and Negeri Sembilan before expanding nationwide.
From 2027, Google plans to establish Data Center Institutes at selected polytechnics in both states.
The institutes will offer a 10-week course, including practical training with a physical data centre simulator, to prepare vocational jobseekers for data centre deployment and operations roles.
