    Events are often a good way to connect and reconnect with people from the industry. In keeping with our yearly tradition, we endeavor to list down all the relevant fintech events in Malaysia that the community can consider attending.

    Our 2020 list of fintech events in Malaysia will be updated regularly as and when we come across relevant events. Below are latest list of fintech events in Malaysia that we’ve compiled so far.

    Fintech: eKYC & Digital Bank

    The Fintech: eKYC & Digital Bank panel discussion will take place on February 6 and will cover the latest developments related to digital know-your-customer (eKYC) and digital banking.

    Speakers will include Frederic Ho, VP, APAC at Jumio; and Andanta Djafar, Risk Solutions Specialist at Refinitiv. Jenna Huey, co-founder at Lawtech Malaysia (LTM), will be moderating the discussion.

     

    IMAS Digital Accelerator Programme (DAP) 2020

    IMAS Digital Accelerator Programme (DAP) 2020

    The Investment Management Association of Singapore (IMAS) is collaborating with the Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) to bring this year’s Digital Accelerator Programme (DAP).

    This 2nd iteration of the DAP promises to be bigger and better with more prizes and greater access to the asset management world.

    The Digital Accelerator Programme will be looking for innovative digital solutions that address 10 different challenge statements covering topics such as data analytics to better understand customers, enable holistic investment assessment, enhance regulatory tech and improve business processes in the investment management industry.

    Finalists for each challenge will be invited to showcase their solution to the industry at the 2020 DAP Showcase event in Singapore on March 26, 2020. The top 3 teams selected will then be invited to pitch to a wider industry audience at the IMAS-Bloomberg Investment Conference 2020 on April 29, 2020.

    One team per challenge can expect to receive SGD 20,000 to SGD 50,000 upon completion of development milestones and the chance for commercialization with Acceleration Partners. Finalists will be also accelerated and enrolled as an IMAS Associate (fintech) member.

    In February, IFN Fintech will host a delegation of Islamic fintech startups from key Shariah financial markets to meet with Asian investors in Kuala Lumpur.

    This invite-only private event will provide angel investors, family offices, private equity and venture capital firms with the opportunity to meaningfully engage fintech startups from different verticals including digital banking, asset management, blockchain and payments among others, from different markets around the world, to discover potential investment opportunities in the burgeoning fintech space while maintaining Shariah integrity.

    IFN will be hosting two awards ceremonies, recognizing the best and leading players in the global Islamic finance industry and their contributions in 2019.

    The Islamic finance industry has come a long way from being a minor subset of the financial industry, and is now a force to be reckoned with, as increasing awareness of the positive and beneficial impacts of Shariah compliant financial transactions permeates the financial system.

    The annual awards ceremonies will honor those that have played a critical and impactful role in unraveling the potential of Islamic finance to a wider base of investors and audience, as the industry’s well-known figures gather in Kuala Lumpur and Dubai for the IFN Awards Ceremonies.

     

    IFN Asia Forum 2020

    Private Equity Tech Conference 2020

    Private Equity Tech Conference will come back on August 13, for another edition of the conference. This year’s event will be themed PETC Malaysia 2020, and is set to gather over 200+ attendees, limited partners (LPs) and general partners (GPs). Discussion topics will include regional deal flows, LP-GP relationships, mid-market deal sourcing, fund of funds, impact of future policies on the industry, etc.

    PETC is specialized is in bringing in funds and investors from abroad to connect with the local players. The past annual conferences and investor meetings since 2016 have amassed hundreds of fund managers and LPs, mainly from the APAC region.

     

    IFN Halal Financing Forum 2020

    Smart Banking and Fintech Expo 2020

    Smart Banking Expo 2020

    The Smart Nation 2020 Exhibition and Conference, to be held at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre from Sept 8 to 10, 2020 will be the landmark event to launch Malaysia’s leap into the next digital age and transform the nation. Supported by Malaysian Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, the expo will be the center for introducing the latest smart solutions and applications as well as a platform for local and regional governments to showcase their smart city initiatives and their potential impact on the future.

    IFN Green & Sustainable Finance Forum 2020

    Unconfirmed: SCxSC 2020

    The SCxSC Fintech Conference is held by the Securities Commission Malaysia as its annual fintech event, it is typically held towards the second half the year and normally within their own premises.

    While there has been no official confirmation for SCxSC 2020, we believe it’s likely to return again this year.

     

    Not Returning in 2020: myFintech Week

    myFintech Week is Bank Negara Malaysia’s inaugural fintech event hosted in 2019, sources from Bank Negara Malaysia has confirmed that this event will only happen once every two years. It is expected to return in 2021.
