Equinix has appointed Effendi Azmi Hashim as Managing Director for Malaysia, effective immediately.
He joins from Kyndryl, where he led the Malaysia and Indonesia business, as Equinix advances more than US$700 million in investment commitments in the country.
Based in Kuala Lumpur, Effendi will oversee the company’s Malaysian strategy, customer growth and operations. He succeeds Cheam Tat Inn, who will retire from full-time operational leadership.
His appointment comes as Equinix seeks to meet growing demand for data centre capacity supporting cloud services, AI workloads and other data-intensive applications in Malaysia.
Effendi brings 25 years of technology leadership experience
Effendi has 25 years of experience in business consulting, technology and commercial leadership, including work across banking, utilities, and oil and gas.
At Kyndryl, he oversaw business strategy and operations in Malaysia and Indonesia while supporting clients’ digital transformation efforts.
He previously held senior leadership roles at Cognizant, Mesiniaga Berhad, Iperintis Sdn Bhd and Accenture.
Effendi holds a master’s degree in international and comparative corporate law from London Metropolitan University and has received the Manager of the Year award from the Malaysian Institute of Management.

“As organisations look to scale digital capabilities, modernize infrastructure and create new value through AI and cloud, Equinix is well positioned to help customers connect to the partners, ecosystems and platforms they need to grow with confidence,”
said Effendi.
Equinix expands its Malaysia data centre footprint
Equinix opened its first two Malaysian data centres in Johor and Kuala Lumpur in 2024, establishing its presence in both markets.
Its expansion includes the KL1 facility in Cyberjaya, backed by more than US$100 million in investment, and a subsequent RM23 million land acquisition nearby to support additional capacity.
Equinix said its announced investments in Malaysia exceed US$700 million and will add more than 5,800 cabinets of capacity through 2028.
The company aims to support rising demand for cloud, AI and digital infrastructure while expanding connectivity across Malaysia and the wider region.
