AEON Bank, Malaysia’s first Islamic digital bank, secured two wins at the Islamic Finance News (IFN) Awards.
The bank was named Best Islamic Digital Bank (Global) and won Best Islamic Digital Offering by a Bank (Malaysia) under the IFN Best Bank Poll.
The IFN Awards, celebrating their 20th year, recognise achievements in Islamic finance through a global voting process.
This year, over 17,500 votes were cast across multiple categories, including Best Banks, Non-Banking Financial Institutions, Law, Service Providers, and Deals of the Year.
A total of 101 winners were recognised across two award ceremonies held in Dubai on 17 February and Kuala Lumpur on 20 February.
The Kuala Lumpur ceremony was attended by key figures in the Islamic finance industry, including Securities Commission Executive Chairman Dato’ Mohammad Faiz Azmi, who highlighted the sector’s role in promoting ethical financial practices.
He emphasized that Maqasid al-Shariah serves as the foundation of Islamic finance and called for the industry to address pressing global challenges.
He also noted that Malaysia’s Islamic capital market was valued at US$583.11 billion (RM2.6 trillion) as of November 2024, while global Islamic finance assets are projected to reach US$7.5 trillion by 2028, growing at an annual rate of 8.9%.
He posed several key questions, asking whether the sector is doing enough to tackle aging populations, pension gaps, and retirement security, how Islamic finance can help mitigate climate risks and extreme weather, and how quickly AI and technology can be adopted to improve efficiency and financial accessibility.
AEON Bank, which launched in May 2024, currently offers a range of digital personal banking products, including Savings Account-i, AEON Bank Visa Debit Card-i, and Savings Pots with optimisation features.
It also provides AI-powered budgeting insights, digital payment services through DuitNow, utility bill payments, and Neko Missions – an interactive reward programme – integrated with AEON Points’ loyalty ecosystem.
The bank plans to expand its offerings to include business banking services for local entrepreneurs and MSMEs, aiming to support their growth in an increasingly competitive market.
