Sweden-based fintech company Vilja will establish a new development center in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, set to launch in 2025.
The move is part of Vilja’s strategy to expand its global presence, focusing on driving digital innovation in areas like artificial intelligence (AI) and cybersecurity.
The company plans to invest an initial RM50 million over the first five years.
The announcement was made during Sweden-Malaysian Digital Day in Stockholm, in a ceremony attended by Vilja CEO Fredrik Ulvenholm and MDEC Head of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) Kamelinder Singh.
This development follows Vilja’s earlier announcement of its ASEAN headquarters in Kuala Lumpur, citing the city’s strong talent pool and strategic location.
Vilja has already formed partnerships with Malaysian firms such as InsiteMY, Finology, Neurogine, and RC Technology as part of its efforts to strengthen its foothold in the region.
Anuar Fariz, CEO of MDEC said,
“MDEC welcomes Vilja’s commitment to establishing a new development center in Malaysia. This investment by a globally renowned technology leader such as Vilja highlights Malaysia’s position as a leading digital hub in ASEAN, and a gateway to the broader APAC region.
Leveraging on the Malaysia Digital initiative, MDEC remains dedicated to supporting and collaborating closely with the Vilja team to ensure the success of this venture.”
Fredrik Ulvenholm, CEO of Vilja, said,
“We see strong demand for our cloud-native core banking platform in ASEAN.
Kuala Lumpur was an easy choice due to its talent pool, government support, and regional connectivity.”
