Equinix has completed the second phase of its KL1 data centre in Kuala Lumpur, adding 450 cabinets to meet growing demand for digital infrastructure in Malaysia.
This latest development was completed within the first year of the company’s operations in the country.
It follows Equinix’s entry into the Malaysian market in 2024 and supports its broader strategy to enhance regional connectivity across ASEAN.
The KL1 facility is now part of a broader network that includes Equinix’s operations in Singapore and Johor, with planned expansion into Indonesia, the Philippines, and Thailand.
The company said the interconnected network is aimed at enabling cross-border data exchange and supporting businesses deploying digital services across Southeast Asia.
Equinix has attracted both global and local clients from sectors such as cloud services, digital media, enterprises, and network providers.
The company’s Malaysia operations are positioned as part of a longer-term investment in the country’s digital economy, with continued interest from customers in both Kuala Lumpur and Johor.
Equinix has linked its KL1 and JH1 facilities in Malaysia with its Singapore data centre campus using Equinix Fabric, a platform that supports connectivity between more than 1,000 businesses in the region.
The company said its regional network will eventually support low-latency, multi-site workloads once new markets are added.

“We’ve seen encouraging momentum over the past year, with both our Kuala Lumpur and Johor facilities gaining traction among local and international businesses.
Completing KL1’s second phase within first year of our operation in Malaysia signals our deep commitment to helping the nation become a strategic location in the region’s digital economy.”
said Cheam Tat Inn, Managing Director of Malaysia, Equinix.
