Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim met with Bank Rakyat leadership to stress the importance of strengthening the Islamic banking and finance system.
He stated that the sector’s growth should remain guided by justice, benevolence, and inclusiveness, in line with the government’s MADANI agenda.
In a post on X, Anwar confirmed he received a visit from the Bank Rakyat Chairman and CEO to review its 2025 financial performance and discuss its direction for the coming year.
He noted that the bank’s governance and financial position remained strong last year, reflecting high operational discipline.
Anwar also directed the bank to pursue its founding mandate while exploring new opportunities for a more competitive and sustainable business model.
The meeting comes shortly after Bank Negara Malaysia imposed a RM1 million administrative monetary penalty on Bank Rakyat over breaches involving cybersecurity and customer information protection.
The penalty followed a cybersecurity incident involving unauthorised access to the bank’s IT infrastructure.
