The Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) hosted its flagship event, Think Business Think Hong Kong 2026 (TBTHK), in Kuala Lumpur today.
The symposium brought together around 1,600 individuals from Hong Kong and Malaysia, including government and business leaders and professional service providers from Hong Kong.
The Think Business, Think Hong Kong 2026 event provided opportunities for Malaysian businesses to expand into the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA), the wider Chinese mainland, and global markets via Hong Kong.
The opening ceremony was officiated by Prof Frederick Ma, Chairman of HKTDC, Algernon Yau, Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development of the Hong Kong SAR Government, and Anthony Loke Siew Fook, Malaysia’s Minister of Transport.
Prof Ma said,
“Especially at times like these – when businesses are navigating geopolitical uncertainty, evolving supply chains and rapid advances in technology – trusted connections and strong networks are more valuable than ever.”
Algernon Yau added,
“We established the GoGlobal Task Force (Task Force on Supporting Mainland Enterprises in Going Global) last year to provide one-stop, customised support services to facilitate outbound direct investment into overseas markets, including Malaysia and beyond.”
Anthony Loke shared that the simplified dual initial public offering IPO listing framework between Malaysia and Hong Kong will take place in September 2026, following a MoU signed between the Securities Commission Malaysia (SC) and Hong Kong’s Securities and Futures Commission in July 2026, according to The Edge.
He urged businesses to leverage the opportunities which were being developed through Malaysia and Hong Kong’s capital market linkages.
10 memoranda of understanding (MoUs) and over 300 business matching meetings also took place. The latter consisted of one-to-one business consultations and on-site business matching, as well as facilitating deals and cooperation between Hong Kong and Malaysian companies.
